AIG PROVIDER NETWORK RULES for CALIFORNIA

Provider Selection
Medical Provider Network (MPN): If the employer has implemented a Medical Provider Network (MPN), the employer will direct the employee's medical care to a network provider (unless the employee has predesignated). The employee may change treating physicians, but only within the MPN. If there is no MPN, the employer may direct medical care to AIG's preferred provider network for thirty (30) days from when the employer knows of the injury (unless the employee has predesignated his personal physician). Thereafter, the employee may obtain medical treatment outside of the Preferred Provider Network (PPO).

Predesignation:To predesignate a physician, the employee must have healthcare coverage (for non-work related injuries or illnesses). The employee is required to notify his employer (in writing prior to the date of injury) that he wishes to be treated by his personal physician (M.D or D.O), and the physician would have to agree to be predesignated.

Provider Lists
Medical Provider Network: Provider postings are permitted, and the employee may request access to the complete MPN. Access is available at this web-site, or by contacting the employer or the Pre-Injury Consultant at AIG Claims, Inc. at 877-802-5246 or the Medical Access Assistant at 855-803-0363.

If you would like to request an electronic copy of any notification regarding the MPN that is required to be given to an employee, please email pic_ng@aig.com.

Managed Care Options
California Senate Bill 899 allows for the provision of a Medical Provider Network plan, and in addition to a medical provider network, the MPN plan allows for a process for second and third opinions, transfer of ongoing care, continuity of care, and independent medical review.
