Provider Selection
The employer is responsible for furnishing the emergency medical treatment at an employer-designated office or facility. After this initial treatment, the employee has choice of provider, unless the employer has a State Approved Managed Care Plan, If a Plan exists, all subsequent providers must be in network.
Preferred Provider Program: The employee may choose to be treated by a medical provider of his/her choice in the Preferred Provider Program (PPP).

Declination to participate: The employee may decline to be treated by a provider in the PPP at the time of injury or at anytime throughout the treatment for the work related injury. Such declination must be made in writing to the supervisor or manager and will count as one of the two choices of medical providers.

Managed Care Options
Illinois House Bill 1698 allows an employer to offer healthcare services to an employee with a workers’ compensation injury through an approved Preferred Provider Program (PPP). To implement the PPP the Notice of Workers’ Compensation Preferred Provider Program is to be given to all employees prior to the effective date. Notification at Time-of-Injury of Worker’s Compensation Preferred Provider Program must be given to the injured employee at the time of injury.

Utilization Management and Review
Utilization Review for medical services maybe conducted to analyze the necessity of past, present and future medical treatments related to the work injury.

Additional Regulation
The law provides if, prior to report of injury, the employee is provided non-emergency treatment from a medical provider not within the PPP, that treatment would constitute one of the two choices of a medical provider to which the employee is otherwise entitled to. AIG may not be required to pay for medical treatment the employee receives from medical providers outside or beyond the two choices of medical providers and subsequent referrals.
